What’s all this about Two Hearts Wellness?
Two Hearts Wellness is the original concept for Dr. Bruno’s clinic. Two Hearts Wellness provides holistic healthcare for a range of patient populations and Holistic Health and hEDS is specifically for people who are hypermobile and/or folks who want to learn more about this condition.
What are Dr. Bruno’s qualifications?
Dr. Bruno is a licensed practitioner of Chinese medicine. She was a Spanish professor in her first career and she earned her Ph.D. at Indiana University, Bloomington. She holds three master’s degrees and maintains a number of certifications. For a list of Dr. Bruno’s degrees and certifications, see her Credentials page.
I’m not in Texas. Can I get Chinese medicine treatment anyway?
There are some limits to out-of-state appointments. Dr. Bruno cannot prescribe herbal formulas and your virtual visits will be categorized as health or edu-coaching sessions. However, work with Dr. Bruno is informed by her training as a licensed practitioner of Chinese medicine.
What does “one issue” mean if I want to book a consultation?
A consultation is intended to be informative and contained. If there are too many different threads it can be difficult to provide meaningful responses. A one-issue consult might focus on EDS and pain, or the trifecta (EDS, MCAS, and POTS) and how to begin strategizing a plan, or–for example–ways to communicate with your MD. There can be a range of interests but, for a consult, this needs to be contained to one to three issues.
What does “complex” mean if I want to book a consultation?
Some of us have a lot of history or want to address more than three major themes. If there is a complicated history and a lot going on currently, you may decide that a longer appointment is in your better interest.
What’s the difference between edu-coaching and health coaching?
Edu-coaching most correctly relates to teachers coaching and supporting other instructors within their fields. Given that Dr. Bruno’s first career was in academia, because she dearly loves to teach, and since she firmly believes that a knowledgable patient is an empowered patient, she uses the term edu-coaching to indicate the combination of education and coaching that she provides. She is a certified health coach and tailors all of her approaches to the individual. If you want your sessions to lean more towards health coaching and focus less on the educational aspect (or vice-versa) that is certainly an option.
Does Dr. Bruno take health insurance?
Dr. Bruno uses her brain cells and energy to focus on you, not on trying to deal with insurance agencies. She does not accept insurance or otherwise engage with their bureaucratic systems.
Can you suggest a practitioner near me?
One reason Dr. Bruno wrote Chinese Medicine and the Management of Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome: A Practitioner’s Guide is because she is not able to suggest practitioners unless she knows them and their work. By sharing her knowledge, Dr. Bruno hopes that familiarity with hEDS and its myriad of presentations becomes the norm, not the exception. Dr. Bruno expects to build a list of practitioners who are experts, so do come back to this website and we will announce this resource when it is available.
What about the book? If I’m not an acupuncturist, is it worth reading?
The book was written so that a wide audience could benefit from it. Anyone who wants to learn more about what Chinese medicine has to offer can acquire useful information via this book, as could a practitioner in other fields of healthcare. If you are a potential patient who is looking for a practitioner and want to be on the same page with your new provider, you could read the book and ask them to read it too. Doing so can help both of you to have a common language in the treatment room, which is invaluable.
